Prof. Muhammad Arif Nadeem
Dr. Muhammad Arif Nadeem is Professor of Medicine & Gastroenterology, Department of Gastroenterology, Division of Medicine & Allied at Shalamar Medical & Dental College / Shalamar Hospital, Lahore Pakistan since October 16, 2024.
He had been Professor of Medicine & Gastroenterology, and Head of Department of Medicine, Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Services Institute of Medical Sciences / Services Hospital, Lahore Pakistan from September 02, 2014 to March 20, 2024. He also served as Dean of Medicine & Allied from January 2021 to March 2024 at the same institution as well.
Dr. Nadeem earned his medical degree from University of the Punjab, Lahore at Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore on December 10, 1987, did House Job in Medicine and Surgery at Services Hospital, Lahore from February 01, 1988 to January 31, 1989 and his first academic appointment was at Sheikh Zayed Medical Complex / DHQ Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan, as a Resident Medical Officer in the Department of Medicine from April 01, 1989 to July 10, 1993. That hospital was then recognized for first year post graduate medicine residency training from the College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan and Pakistan Medical & Dental Council.
He came to Mayo Hospital affiliated with King Edward Medical College, Lahore in July 1993 for the completion of residency training in Medicine focusing on all medicine & allied specialities there especially the Gastroenterology & Hepatology. In December 1995, after completion of his residency, he joined Jinnah Hospital affiliated with Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore in the Department of Medicine and Gastroenterology. During his stay there completed residency training in Gastroenterology as well.
He has continually risen through the faculty ranks, joined as Senior Registrar Mayo Hospital, Lahore on Nov. 08, 1999 after selection through PPSC, given the post of Assistant Professor first at King Edward Medical College, Lahore from May 05, 2001 to July 10, 2004 and promoted as regular Assistant Professor at Services Institute of Medical Sciences/ Services Hospital, Lahore on August 25, 2006, promoted as Associate Professor in September 2011 and selected as Professor through PPSC in April 2014. He was named chair of his department in 2012 and dean of Medicine & Allied at Services Institute of Medical Sciences/ Services Hospital, Lahore from January 2021 to March 2024.
Dr. Nadeem is listed among the top physicians and gastroenterologist / hepatologist in Lahore and the nation. He is author of 101 peer-reviewed national and international publications and a Book on Clinical Medicine, “A Manual of Clinical Skills and Differential Diagnosis” as the first Contributor with Prof. Mahmood Ali Malik as well as two guidelines on Hepatitis B and C for Government of the Punjab.
Dr. Nadeem is a member of numerous professional organizations and has served on many national and institutional committees. He had been Co-Chairman of Dengue Expert Advisory Group for Government of the Punjab for three years. He is currently a member of the monitoring committee for the Punjab Human Organ Transplant Authority (PHOTA) since June 27, 2024. He remained Vice President (2015-2017) of Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology & GI Endoscopy (PSG).
Dr. Nadeem remained Executive Editor of Pakistan Journal of Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology & GI Endoscopy (PJG) from 2012 to 2024 and Associate Editor of Esculapio, Journal of Services Institute of Medical sciences, Lahore from 2016 to 2024.
